About

Hello everyone, my name is James Groot, Red Seal Certified Chef and Culinary Instructor but most importantly a Husband and Father to my beautiful wife and children.

I am a 3rd generation Canadian, born and raised in Vancouver British Columbia with ancestral roots from The Netherlands.

I began my cooking career at Chartwell, a bastion of fine dining at the Four Seasons in Vancouver. After completing my formal training at VCC’s award-winning culinary arts program, I began my apprenticeship in France, returning to finish my training under renowned chef Christopher Mills at Diva at the Met.

My career continued at the Vancouver Club, providing the opportunity for my second culinary tour to Europe where I cooked at the St. James Club in London and the Cercle de L’union Interalliee in Paris.

Returning to Vancouver, I was handpicked by Chef Hamid Salimian to assist in developing and launching the Apron Restaurant at the Westin Wall Centre in Richmond in time for the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In 2012 I returned to VCC as a Culinary Arts Instructor where I have the privilege of passing on my knowledge and experience to the next generation of Chefs.

I also offer my services as a Personal Chef to friends and family providing a wide range of custom menu offerings.

I have a passion for eating and cooking great food, spending time outdoors in my garden and I especially enjoy celebrating special occasions with others.
